Baby blanket

While not great pictures (just quickly snapped with my cell), I am in a hurry to get this one out in the mail for the new baby and so, this is what you get for now.  Hopefully the new parents will send me a shot of the new baby in her blanket.  This is different than my usual "go to" baby blanket that you can see throughout this blog and on my Ravelry page.  I decided to go with a sport weight baby yarn to make a thinner blanket.  With a baby born in July, I am not sure they will have the need for my normal blanket just now.  

This is a pattern from Caron and is called their One Skein Baby Blanket.  It was quick and easy to work up and the body of the work reminds me a lot of the "go to" blanket I do.  I think if I make this one again, and I might because it does not use a lot of yarn so I have plenty left over, that I will do a different edging.  I found some great edgings recently and I am interested in trying some out soon.  

This particular yarn is from Bernat and I loved the colors together on the skein, but I had trouble finding a design where the colors looked okay together.  This was the second blanket design I tried and even as I worked the entire thing, I was not sure I liked it.  The brown colors almost reminded me of smudges- as if I had been playing in newsprint before handling the yarn.  All worked up, I like it again, but I cannot tell you how many times this one almost got ripped out, too.  

Corner to Corner (c2c) Baby Blanket

This is my take on the corner to corner (c2c) pattern craze.  If anyone is interested in a pattern, I'll write it up and post it here.  

Baby blanket

I almost didn't post pictures of this blanket I finished yesterday, but in my never ending quest to get better pictures of my projects, I decided to give it a try and post it here anyway.  If you know me, you've likely seen (or even been given) a similar blanket and I believe there are other versions of this posted elsewhere on this blog.  This is my "go-to" blanket anytime I hear someone is expecting.  I don't even remember who I made the first one for, but after it was done, I liked it so much that I've been making this pattern ever since.  

Obviously I'm still not mastering the picture thing, since the above and below pictures are of the same blanket even though they look like completely different colors.  I think I finally got an okay shot of the blanket trim, however.  This particular blanket is about 40" x 40" and is in a rose color.  

I originally picked up this pattern from the sheets in the store that hang on the display rack, but there is a copy online that can be found here.  You can use the yarn suggested, or any worsted weight yarn that you like.  Depending on the type of yarn, I usually end up more than one 16 ounce skein, but not much into the second skein.  If I find a color I like, I usually get three of the skeins and make two blankets.  Seems like there's no shortage of babies to give these to!  

Nothing like crocheting a blanket in a heat wave.

With the heat, I haven't been crafting very much, but then this little bundle of joy I was slowly working on a blanket for came along (a little) faster than expected, so here is his completed blankie.
