Double Spiral Blanket

This pattern intimidated me at first, but it is really well written and goes together much easier than I expected.  I love the outcome.  Though some of the blocks look a little misshapen, it is due to the drag of the board I have it on.  I had not yet blocked the blanket when the picture was taken.  The pattern was not yet available to the public when this post was written, but you can check out the designer's other patterns available.

I used Caron Simply Soft in four colors.

Brown- 9.92 oz. or about 521 yds.
Cream- 17.18 oz. or about 902 yds.
Orange- 6.48 oz. or about 340 yds.
Yellow- 10.89 oz. or about 571 yds.

It ended up measuring about 50"x60", point to point.

Test Blanket

I tested this blanket for a pattern writer at the beginning of July.  The pattern goes live in August and as soon as it does, I will link it here.  My picture seems a little wonky and I need to block the blanket still, but I really liked this pattern.  Click here to see the designer's currently available patterns.

There were a total of three designs with either two or three colors that could be used to make the blanket.  I made the third of the three designs.  This blanket ended up being more lapghan or baby blanket size.  It used a J hook (6.0 mm).  I used a two yarns.  For color A- I used approximately 562 yards or 11.23 oz of ww yarn.  For color B- I used approximately 735 yards or 14.7 oz of ww yarn.

The blanket is made up of squares, though they appear more diamond like in my picture.  

Baby blanket

While not great pictures (just quickly snapped with my cell), I am in a hurry to get this one out in the mail for the new baby and so, this is what you get for now.  Hopefully the new parents will send me a shot of the new baby in her blanket.  This is different than my usual "go to" baby blanket that you can see throughout this blog and on my Ravelry page.  I decided to go with a sport weight baby yarn to make a thinner blanket.  With a baby born in July, I am not sure they will have the need for my normal blanket just now.  

This is a pattern from Caron and is called their One Skein Baby Blanket.  It was quick and easy to work up and the body of the work reminds me a lot of the "go to" blanket I do.  I think if I make this one again, and I might because it does not use a lot of yarn so I have plenty left over, that I will do a different edging.  I found some great edgings recently and I am interested in trying some out soon.  

This particular yarn is from Bernat and I loved the colors together on the skein, but I had trouble finding a design where the colors looked okay together.  This was the second blanket design I tried and even as I worked the entire thing, I was not sure I liked it.  The brown colors almost reminded me of smudges- as if I had been playing in newsprint before handling the yarn.  All worked up, I like it again, but I cannot tell you how many times this one almost got ripped out, too.  

Nothing like crocheting a blanket in a heat wave.

With the heat, I haven't been crafting very much, but then this little bundle of joy I was slowly working on a blanket for came along (a little) faster than expected, so here is his completed blankie.

Baby Quilts

These were by request and are ready to go to their new home.  I'll be dropping them off today.

Not sure why this one looks so wrinkled in the pictures.  Hmpf.

WIP- baby quilt

The pictures aren't great thanks to the baby quilt not yet having backing and all the sunlight that was coming through my windows.  No complaints about the sun coming in!  

This is a work in progress (WIP).  The printed squares are Care Bears.  I'm not sure who will be the recipient of this little blanket.  The only person I know who is currently expecting will be welcoming a boy, and I think Care Bears may be a bit too feminine.  If you know me, you know that means that a crochet blanket is also in the works for that little guy!
